The presidency has rejected allegations from Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu betrayed labour leaders by raising petrol prices.
Ajaero had claimed that the agreement on the N70,000 national minimum wage was based on the condition that fuel prices would not increase.
In response, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Print Media, refuted these claims.
In a statement on his verified X handle, @Abdulfagge, Abdulaziz, who attended both recent meetings between President Tinubu and labour leaders, asserted that no offer was made in exchange for the fuel price adjustment.
Abdulaziz criticized Ajaero’s statements as “dirty politics” intended to exploit public sentiment.
He emphasized, “I was present at both meetings between President @officialABAT and Labour leaders regarding the minimum wage.
At neither meeting was an offer made for a fuel price hike.”
He concluded by accusing Ajaero of manipulating public emotions for political gain, stating, “Ajaero is once again playing his dirty politics with the emotions of Nigerians.”
