During his weekly prayers on Sunday, Pope Francis expressed concern for the victims of the Mpox virus, acknowledging that it has become “a global health emergency.”
Speaking after his Angelus prayers in St. Peter’s Square, the pontiff said, “I pray for all the infected people, in particular the population of the Democratic Republic of Congo, so affected. I express my closeness to the local churches most touched by this disease.”
Earlier this month, the World Health Organization declared the surge of Mpox cases, first reported in the DR Congo, as a global health emergency.
