The Kebbi State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that Christian children rescued from kidnappers were placed in a Muslim-based orphanage in Birnin Kebbi.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Nafiu Abubakar, described the allegations as “fake, mischievous, and baseless.”
The clarification followed claims made by an unnamed corps member, who alleged that he encountered a four-year-old Igbo Christian boy named Uzochukwu at the orphanage. According to the viral post, the child purportedly recounted being kidnapped, resold, and later rescued by police, who allegedly placed him and other Christian children in the facility.
The Command strongly refuted the account, stating that it was “a calculated attempt to tarnish the good image of the Command and undermine the integrity and professionalism of its officers.”
Abubakar reiterated the police’s commitment to fighting crime and ensuring justice for all communities, irrespective of religion. He further warned those peddling falsehoods to desist, stressing the damage such misinformation could cause to public trust and societal harmony.
He added that the police would continue to work with credible media outlets to provide accurate information on their operations and to counter the spread of fake news.
The Command urged members of the public to disregard the viral claims and remain cautious about unverified reports circulating on social media.
