The Katsina State Police Command has successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt and rescued 10 passengers in Jibia Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson ASP Abubakar Aliyu, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday.
He stated that at 8:30 p.m. on December 24, armed bandits, wielding dangerous weapons and firing sporadically, attacked a commercial vehicle at Kwanar Makera, located along the Katsina-Magama-Jibia road.
The bandits attempted to abduct the 10 passengers aboard.
Upon receiving a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia led a team of officers to the scene, engaging the bandits in a gunfight.
The team successfully foiled the kidnapping attempt and rescued all 10 victims.
However, four of the rescued passengers suffered gunshot wounds during the attack and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Unfortunately, two of the victims later died from their injuries.
Aliyu further stated that efforts to apprehend the bandits, who fled the scene, are ongoing, with an investigation in progress.
Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, praised the officers for their bravery and commitment to duty, urging them to maintain their vigilance.
He also called on the public to provide the police with timely information to combat criminal activities effectively.
