Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara, has passed away after undergoing prostate cancer surgery.
Ayilara died in the early hours of Thursday at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.
Sources close to the family confirmed that he underwent surgery on Wednesday before his death.
The family expressed sadness over the loss, saying “We are very sad to inform you that our friend, brother, and family, the Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, Waheed Ayilara, is dead.
“A top police officer in Akwa Ibom State also confirmed the CP’s death, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Efforts to verify the news with the Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, were unsuccessful.
Ayilara was unveiled as the acting Commissioner of Police in Lagos in November 2023.
His death has sent shockwaves through the police force and community.
