The Gombe State Police Command has announced the deployment of personnel and resources across the state to guarantee a peaceful and hitch-free Maulud celebration.
In a statement on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said the deployment, approved by the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Yahaya, covers designated venues, procession routes, and other strategic locations.
“The command has made robust security arrangements to safeguard lives and property before, during, and after the celebration,” Abdullahi stated, noting that the deployment includes conventional officers, tactical units, intelligence operatives, and specialised equipment.
The police reminded residents that the ban on carrying weapons in public gatherings remains in force, warning that violators will face arrest and prosecution. The restriction on motorcycle movement between 7 pm and 6 am also remains in place as part of efforts to curb crime and maintain public order.
Procession organisers, religious leaders, and stakeholders were urged to ensure compliance with security directives, take responsibility for the conduct of their members, and cooperate fully with security operatives throughout the celebration.
While congratulating Muslim faithful on the occasion, CP Yahaya called on residents to be law-abiding, report suspicious movements, and refrain from actions capable of disrupting public peace.
Maulud, which marks the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), is widely celebrated in northern Nigeria with prayers, processions, and communal gatherings. Past celebrations have sometimes witnessed security challenges, prompting the police to strengthen preventive measures.
The command assured residents of its continued commitment to maintaining peace and security across Gombe State.
