Police Arrest Three Suspects for Beheading of Couple in Abia

The Abia State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the brutal killing of an elderly couple in Etiti-ulo, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State. The victims, Mr. Jacob Udo, 78, and his wife, Mrs. Comfort Udo, 73, were found dead in their home, with their bodies discovered in a pool of blood.

The arrests were made following an investigation launched after the crime was reported. This was disclosed in a press statement on Friday by the Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Maureen Chinaka.

According to the statement, the police were alerted to the
gruesome murder on October 2, 2024. Upon arriving at the crime scene, officers found that the couple had been beheaded, and several items were stolen from their home. Their bodies have since been deposited at a mortuary for autopsy.

“On 02/10/2024, we received a report at Bende Divisional
Headquarters at about 08:30 am that Mr. Jacob Udo, 78 years old, and Mrs. Comfort Udo, 73 years old, were found lying lifeless in a pool of blood in their compound. It was further discovered that several properties were carted away from the house,” the statement read.

The three suspects, now in custody at the State Criminal
Investigation Department (SCID) in Umuahia, are undergoing interrogation as part of the ongoing investigation into the heinous crime.

The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, expressed his deep concern over the tragedy, vowing to ensure that the case is thoroughly investigated and justice is swiftly served.

“The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, expresses his deep concern over the unfortunate incident and assures the good people of Abia State that the mystery behind this criminal act will be unraveled to ensure prompt dispensation of justice,” the st-tement added.

The arrest and investigation have brought some hope to the local community, as police continue to work to uncover the full circumstances behind the shocking crime.
