The Kano State Police Command has recovered a stolen grey Rav-4 mini jeep with registration number YAB 881 JK Abuja and apprehended a suspect linked to the theft.
The command’s spokesman, SP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the development in a press statement issued on Monday. According to him, the vehicle was found abandoned during a routine patrol by the Anti-Car Theft Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on December 28, 2024, around Kwanar Ungogo, Ungogo Local Government Area, Kano State.
“Preliminary investigations led to the arrest of the principal suspect, Bala Sani, a 40-year-old man from Funtua LGA, Katsina State,” Haruna disclosed. “The suspect was apprehended on January 4, 2025, in his hometown at Kwado Quarters, Katsina LGA, Katsina State.”
The police revealed that Sani admitted to conspiring with another individual to steal the vehicle from Zaria, Kaduna State. “He further confessed to driving the vehicle to Kano with plans to sell it but abandoned it near Ungogo Junction after noticing police presence,” the statement added.
The recovered vehicle is currently in police custody, while the suspect will face prosecution once the investigation is completed.
The command has called on the vehicle’s owner to visit the Police Public Relations Office, Kano State Command, or contact 08067885568 with proof of ownership to claim the car.
