The Plateau State Ministry of Education has shut down two private schools in Jos for failing to meet the required operational standards.

Mr. Sabastine John, Director of Quality Assurance at the ministry, confirmed the closure on Monday while addressing journalists in Jos.

He identified the affected institutions as First Academy and Niret Private School, located in Jos North and Jos South Local Government Areas, respectively.

According to John, the schools were shut down as part of an ongoing verification exercise aimed at assessing private schools across the state to ensure they provide quality education.

“We observed that the facilities in these schools remain in a deplorable state, and their management has failed to meet the required standards,” he stated.

“There is no conducive environment for quality teaching and learning in these schools, and we cannot allow this to continue,” he added.

John recalled that First Academy had been previously shut down two years ago due to similar issues, but after pleading with the state government, it was allowed to reopen.

“Here we are today, and nothing has changed,” he said.

He emphasized that the move aligns with the government’s commitment to enforcing educational standards and ensuring all schools operate within stipulated guidelines.

The director urged the management of the affected schools to address the identified deficiencies and reapply for reopening once they comply with the necessary requirements.
