The 2023 presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, visited the National Orthopaedic Hospital in Enugu on Thursday to offer support to victims of a recent devastating gas explosion.
Obi shared details of his visit and accompanying photos in an X post, following an appeal from social media influencer and Obi supporter @Uptownoflagos, who revealed that his family members were among those severely injured in the explosion.
The victims sustained third-degree burns, and @Uptownoflagos had called on Nigerians for prayers and financial assistance to cover their medical expenses.
In his post, Obi expressed his condolences and solidarity, saying, “Today, I visited the National Orthopaedic Hospital in Enugu following the heartbreaking news of a ghastly gas explosion that occurred a few days ago at the home of one of our Obidient family members, @Uptownoflagos.
The tragic incident left three of his brothers with severe third-degree burns.
I was there to offer my support and prayers during this challenging time.
Such an unfortunate event weighs heavily on us all.”
Obi continued, “My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their loved ones, and everyone facing similar challenges across the country.
I continue to pray for their complete recovery and that God Almighty grants them healing, strength, and comfort.
As we work toward building a nation where safety, healthcare, and basic amenities are prioritised, let us remain united and supportive of one another.”
