The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has managed to secure a vote at the polling unit of Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the ongoing Edo governorship election.
This occurred at Unit 03, Ward 1, Uwessan, Esan Central Local Government Area, where Okpebholo cast his ballot.
Prior to the election, Okpebholo confidently claimed that the PDP would not receive a single vote at his polling unit, stating that his strong connection with the community guaranteed full support for his party.
However, when the results were announced, Asue Ighodalo, the PDP’s candidate, surprisingly secured one vote.
Okpebholo himself led with 102 votes, while Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata and Ighodalo each received one vote.
Speaking earlier, Okpebholo praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for what he described as an effective electoral process.
He expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election, indicating that it was a testament to INEC’s progress in improving election management.
Regarding the security situation, Okpebholo dismissed concerns about violence or disruptions, suggesting that the reports were exaggerated.
He noted that the election was proceeding peacefully in his area, attributing this to divine intervention.
The APC had reaffirmed Okpebholo’s candidacy on the eve of the election, highlighting their confidence in his chances.
Despite this, the PDP’s unexpected vote at his polling unit adds an interesting twist to the election narrative.
