Former Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has lauded President Bola Tinubu for signing into law the bill establishing the North Central Development Commission (NCDC), describing it as a historic milestone for the region.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the bill’s signing during a Senate session on Tuesday, marking a significant step toward addressing the longstanding security and economic challenges faced by the North Central region.

In a statement issued on Thursday by his media aide, Terver Akase, Ortom emphasized that the region has suffered over a decade of devastation, with numerous lives lost and millions displaced due to persistent attacks by armed herders, bandits, and other criminal groups. He commended Tinubu for heeding the calls of the people and taking decisive action to support the region’s recovery.

“The establishment of the North Central Development Commission is not just a bureaucratic move; it represents hope for communities that have endured immeasurable losses due to unprovoked attacks,” Ortom stated. “The people of North Central have long awaited this moment, and it is heartening to see that our aspirations have been recognized at the highest level of government.”

Ortom also extended appreciation to Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, for sponsoring the bill, commending his unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people.

“Senator Moro has once again demonstrated remarkable dedication to peace and development. His efforts have been instrumental in bringing this vision to life, and I commend him for his exemplary leadership,” he said.

Additionally, Ortom congratulated Senator Titus Zam, who represents Benue North West Senatorial District, on his appointment as Chairman of the Senate Committee on the North Central Development Commission, wishing him success in leading the commission’s establishment.

He urged the people of the region to rally behind the commission once it becomes operational, ensuring its success in driving development and addressing the pressing needs of North Central Nigeria.
