A broad coalition of Nigeria’s leading opposition figures, including former presidential candidates Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, gathered in Abuja on Tuesday to formalise the acquisition of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as part of a major political realignment ahead of future elections.

The meeting, which marked the official signing ceremony of the ADC’s takeover, was attended by key political figures across various parties and ideologies.

Among those present were former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; former APC National Secretary, John James Akpanudoedehe; Senator Tony Nwoye; former Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung; and PDP chieftain Dino Melaye.

Other prominent attendees included former Governors Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Liyel Imoke (Cross River), and Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna), as well as former Attorney General Abubakar Malami. Influential political actors such as Dele Momodu, Gabriel Suswam, Enyinnaya Abaribe, Victor Umeh, Uche Secondus, and Chukwuemeka Ihedioha also took part in the strategic session.

The event was further highlighted by the presence of the outgoing ADC National Chairman, Ralph Nwosu, and the incoming party leader, former Senate President David Mark, who is expected to lead the revamped platform into a new phase of national opposition politics.

The coalition aims to use the restructured ADC as a united front to challenge the ruling party and redefine Nigeria’s political landscape.

This development signals growing momentum for a consolidated opposition movement with the capacity to influence future national discourse and electoral outcomes.
