The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, on Thursday unveiled a golden statue of Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, at Obafemi Awolowo University, Osun State. The statue honors her impactful contributions to education, women’s empowerment, and national unity.
As part of the event, the Ooni also inaugurated a 2.7km road named “Senator Oluremi Tinubu Way,” a grand pavilion, and a monument, all located on the university campus. These landmarks were donated by the Ooni to honor Mrs. Tinubu’s leadership and service to the nation.
“A golden statue is erected to immortalise her virtuous personality and to showcase the strength of a teacher, mother, and wife at the very heart of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife,” the Ooni stated during the ceremony.
He further praised her efforts in creating opportunities for learning and development, noting, “The biggest hostel and pavilion in the history of Obafemi Awolowo University, which bears her name, represent her dedication to fostering education and empowerment for all.”
In response, Mrs. Tinubu expressed her gratitude and pledged a N1 billion donation to support the university’s horticultural landscaping, further demonstrating her commitment to educational development.
