The Ondo State Police Command, announced a restriction on vehicular and motorcycle movement from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday to ensure security during the local government elections.
In a statement released on Thursday in Akure, the state capital, by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Funmilayo Odunlami, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Wilfred Afolabi, explained that the directive was necessary to maintain order during the electoral process.
“Commuters who may need to use the state as a passage are advised to adjust their plans ahead of the day to accommodate the restrictions,” he said.
The commissioner clarified that the movement restriction does not apply to security personnel, health workers, firefighters, and other essential service providers.
He also noted that emergency cases would be exempted from the restrictions.
“We urge all eligible voters to adhere to the rules guiding the electoral process while exercising their civic duties.
Any individuals planning to disrupt the election are strongly warned to stay away,” Afolabi emphasized.
The commissioner assured the public that comprehensive security arrangements had been made to safeguard both people and materials involved in the election, ensuring a smooth and peaceful electoral process.
“All necessary machinery is in place to swiftly address any attempts to cause mayhem or disrupt the election,” he added.
