Newly inaugurated Edo State Governor, Senator Sunday Okpebholo, has swiftly implemented a comprehensive restructuring of the state’s public service, announcing the immediate dissolution of all board executives and the termination of political appointees.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary on Wednesday, Governor Okpebholo stated, “The Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Sunday Okpebholo, has approved the dissolution of executives of all boards, agencies, and parastatals in the Edo State Public Service with immediate effect.” The order extends to all permanent secretaries appointed from outside the state’s public service.
“All political appointees and external permanent secretaries are hereby relieved of their appointments,” the statement noted, with instructions for affected officials to transfer state properties to the senior officers in their departments.
Governor Okpebholo also suspended all revenue collection across Edo State indefinitely, particularly in public areas such as motor parks. “Anyone seen collecting revenues on behalf of the State Government will be arrested,” he ordered, assigning the commissioner of police to enforce the directive.
The governor’s inauguration on Tuesday at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City marked the conclusion of Godwin Obaseki’s tenure and the beginning of Okpebholo’s administration under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
