The Ogun State Government has initiated a comprehensive rehabilitation of its eight technical colleges, aiming to transform them into top-tier vocational training centres. The initiative seeks to standardize technical and vocational education while equipping students with industry-relevant skills through modern tools and machinery.
The upgrade is being funded by the Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP), a World Bank-supported program. In a statement on Monday, OGSTEP’s Communication Officer, Mrs. Simbo Olayinka, highlighted the government’s commitment to boosting vocational education in the state.
During an inspection of the ongoing rehabilitation at the Government Science and Technical College in Ijebu Ode, the Commissioner for Finance and Chairman of the OGSTEP Project Steering Committee, Mr. Dapo Okubadejo, lauded the quality and progress of the work.
“The government’s focus is on developing both the state’s physical infrastructure and human capital across various education sub-sectors,” Okubadejo said.
He added, “By introducing modern equipment, smart classrooms, and standardized facilities, our aim is to enable students to compete globally and provide a competent workforce for the industrial needs of the state. OGSTEP’s scope extends beyond education, with grants also supporting the agricultural and business-enabling environment sectors.”
The Project Coordinator, Mrs. Mosun Owo-Odusi, emphasized the state government’s efforts to upskill teachers and foster collaborations with local industries.
“These partnerships ensure students and teachers gain practical, hands-on experience. The upgraded facilities will not only benefit students but also serve as a platform for industries to train and upgrade their workforce,” she stated.
The Ogun State Government remains committed to raising the bar in vocational education, ensuring students and industries alike benefit from a skilled and competitive workforce.
