The Ogun State Government has revoked the provisional licenses of several private orphanages due to non-compliance with regulations designed to ensure the well-being and safety of vulnerable children.
During a meeting with orphanage owners at the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Commissioner Hon. Adijat Adeleye announced the revocation. Adeleye expressed concern over some orphanages’ practices, highlighting that the state will not tolerate issues such as improper adoption processes, child trafficking, or abuse.
Adeleye emphasized that orphanages must operate with compassion, focusing on empowering and caring for children. She reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to safeguarding children’s welfare and preventing exploitation, urging orphanages to follow established guidelines.
She also mentioned that the ministry is enhancing its data collection efforts to ensure accurate records of children in orphanages. “The state government’s actions are aimed at protecting vulnerable children and maintaining the integrity of orphanage services,” Adeleye said.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Adejumoke Adewole, announced that the ministry would conduct unscheduled inspections of orphanages to ensure compliance with regulations.
In response, Mrs. Adeyemo Anthony, a representative of the private orphanage owners, praised the government’s efforts and pledged to collaborate with the authorities to support the welfare of vulnerable individuals.
