The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), deployed 3,150 personnel to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the upcoming local government elections in the state.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abeokuta on Saturday, NSCDC Commandant Mrs. Remilekun Ekundayo confirmed the deployment, stating that the personnel would be tasked with protecting voters and maintaining peace during the elections.
Ekundayo highlighted the NSCDC’s broad mandate, which includes safeguarding lives and property, upholding law and order, and securing critical infrastructure.
Established in 1967 and officially recognized by an Act of Parliament in 2003, the NSCDC plays a key role in maintaining national security.
The commandant further explained that the personnel would be stationed across all 20 local government areas in Ogun State.
She cautioned individuals planning to disrupt the elections or incite violence, warning that the NSCDC would take swift action to prevent any disturbances.
Mrs. Ekundayo also emphasized that Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has demonstrated a strong commitment to ensuring the elections are free, fair, and credible.
The Ogun local government elections are set to take place on November 16.
