The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Yusha’u Ahmed, has called on corps members to embrace their postings and build a sense of belonging in their assigned communities, rather than seeking relocation.

Ahmed made this statement on Friday during his visit to the NYSC temporary orientation camp in Kaduna, addressing the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream I corps members.

“Stop thinking of relocating back to your communities; life does not end there,” he said, encouraging them to find a home and adapt to their new environments. He emphasized that embracing change and new experiences is essential for personal growth and a successful service year.

The NYSC DG urged corps members to respect the cultures and traditions of their host communities while contributing positively to their development. He added, “Remain peaceful and resilient as you add value to the community you are posted to. I am sure many of you will choose to remain here after your service.”

Highlighting the importance of security, Ahmed advised corps members to prioritize their safety, saying, “Your security is our concern, but no one can secure you more than yourself.”

He also underscored the role of the NYSC’s skills acquisition and entrepreneurial development programme in empowering young people. Ahmed encouraged corps members to leverage the initiative to become self-reliant, job creators, and wealth builders after their service year.

“Skills acquisition is designed to make you independent, self-reliant, and productive. The Federal Government is committed to supporting youths to stand on their own. Thousands of your predecessors who maximized this opportunity are now independent,” he noted.

Ahmed further warned against unauthorized night travel, indecent dressing, and other behaviors that could tarnish the image of the scheme, urging corps members to uphold the values and reputation of the NYSC throughout their service year.
