The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has uncovered a residential premises in Rivers State that was being used to store illegally refined petroleum products.

The illegal storage facility, located in the Elelewo community of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, contained large storage tanks and numerous cans filled with illicitly refined petroleum.

Joachim Okafor, the NSCDC State Commandant for Rivers, who led the operation, explained that the discovery was made by the Command’s Anti-Vandal Unit using the Corps’ advanced technology for tracking illegal crude oil theft.

Okafor emphasized that, in addition to its detrimental impact on the nation’s economy, the activities of oil thieves are causing severe environmental damage and posing significant health risks to the local population.
