The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has imposed a ₦4 million fine on Rangers International FC for breaching league rules and regulations during their clash against Barau FC.
The Flying Antelopes were sanctioned over multiple infractions, including failure to provide adequate and effective security, which reportedly allowed unauthorised persons access to restricted areas during the match.
The league also ruled that officials of the club engaged in conduct capable of bringing the game into disrepute, while lapses in crowd control led to the harassment of match officials by supporters.
According to the NPFL disciplinary decision, Rangers were fined ₦1 million for failure to provide adequate and effective security, another ₦1 million for encroachment towards the field of play, ₦1 million for unsporting behaviour by officials, and an additional ₦1 million for failure to ensure proper conduct of their supporters.
In addition to the financial penalties, the Enugu-based club has been ordered to play its next two home matches behind closed doors.
Rangers have also been given 48 hours from the date of notification to appeal the sanctions.
