The North Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum announced on Tuesday its intention to challenge the ruling of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which dismissed its case seeking the removal of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje as the National Chairman of the party.
The forum had filed a lawsuit against Ganduje, the APC, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), seeking to nullify his appointment, which followed the resignation of Abdullahi Adamu in July 2023. Ganduje, from Kano State in the North-West, replaced Adamu, who hails from Nasarawa State in the North-Central zone. The forum argued that the chairmanship should remain in the North-Central zone.
However, Justice Inyang Ekwo struck out the case, ruling that the forum lacked legal standing, as it was not a juristic entity. He also stated that the appointment of party officers is an internal matter of the APC, which the court could not intervene in.
Despite the ruling, the forum’s chairman, Saleh Zazzaga, said they would appeal, seeking a proper interpretation of the party’s amended 2022 constitution and zoning arrangement. He stressed that Ganduje’s continued tenure would be detrimental to the party and could alienate the North-Central region from the APC.
