The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a strong demand for the “immediate reversal” of the recent petrol price hike implemented across the country.
In a post shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday night, the NLC stated, “We demand the immediate reversal of the latest increase in the pump price of PMS nationwide.”
The union’s frustration follows the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s (NNPCL) decision to raise the official fuel price from N617 to N897 per liter, a move that NLC President Joe Ajaero described as a betrayal by President Bola Tinubu.
Ajaero emphasized that the union had agreed to the new N70,000 minimum wage with the understanding that there would be no further increases in fuel prices.
He also warned that the NLC would soon convene to determine its next steps, which will be communicated to the public.
