The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended Justice Kudirat Motonmori Kekere-Ekun for the position of Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
This recommendation comes as current CJN, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, is set to retire on August 22, 2024.
The NJC’s recommendation was made during its 106th meeting on August 14 and 15, 2024, presided over by Justice Ariwoola.
The Council also recommended 27 candidates for various state court judge positions and one candidate for the Kadi of the Sharia Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Justice Kekere-Ekun has had a distinguished career, beginning as a Senior Magistrate II in Lagos State and rising to the Supreme Court bench in 2013.
Her extensive experience includes serving as Chairman of the Robbery and Firearms Tribunal and as a Justice of the Nigerian Court of Appeal.

- High Court Judge of Kaduna State: Murtala Ja’afaru Zubairu
- High Court Judges of Benue State: Vincent Tersoo Kor, Maigida Maimuna Ikwulono, Nguhemen Julie Adagba, Damian Tersugh Tor
- Customary Court of Appeal Judges of Benue State: Ogah Inalegwu Onche, Theophilus Terhile Igba
- High Court Judges of Rivers State: Frank Onyiri, Victor Chinedum Ugoji, Godswill Vidal Obomanu, Rita Chituru Oguguo, Elkanah Kokpan, Bariyima Sylvester, Innocent Madighi Obu, Lesi Wifa-Adedipe

The recommended candidates will be sworn in following the approval of their appointments by the President and respective State Governors.
