Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have achieved a significant victory as part of the ongoing military efforts to restore peace and security in Taraba and parts of Benue States under the banner of “Operation Golden Peace.”
On December 7, 2024, the troops conducted a meticulously planned clearance operation in Akahagu and China villages within Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
The mission later extended to Ikayor village, where the soldiers confronted armed bandits at a camp linked to the notorious criminal, Akiki Utiv, also known as “Full Fire.”
The troops deployed overwhelming firepower during the engagement, compelling the bandits to abandon their camp and flee in disarray.
The operation led to the recovery of a red Toyota Corolla vehicle, a motorcycle, a military camouflage trouser, a Beretta pistol with a single round of 9mm ammunition, and other items during a subsequent search.
Speaking about the operation, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade, praised the troops for their courage and resilience.
He reassured the residents of Taraba and Benue States that the military remains steadfast in its mission to uphold peace and security in the region.
General Uwa also urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to bolster the efforts of security agencies.
“Your cooperation is crucial in ensuring the success of our operations and the safety of our communities,” he said.
