The Nigerian Army’s 81 Division has ramped up efforts to combat criminal activities across Lagos and Ogun states.
Recent operations have led to significant arrests and interventions aimed at curbing kidnapping, theft, and vandalism.
In a series of coordinated operations, soldiers, acting on intelligence reports, successfully apprehended several suspects.
Among them was Usman Abubakar, a 27-year-old man from Kebbi State, detained while traveling between Edo and Lagos. Authorities believe he is involved in a kidnapping ring, and he has been transferred to Benin City for further investigation.
Additionally, 32-year-old Uche Kehinde Akwari was arrested for stealing building materials at Elegushi Beach in Lagos.
In a separate operation, nine young men from Katsina State, aged between 18 and 22, were arrested at Bonny Cantonment for allegedly vandalizing and stealing equipment from NNPC’s Atlas Cove facilities.
The suspects, including Sabiu Hashimu and Fahadu Maaru, were handed over to relevant agencies for further interrogation.
The army’s operations included both foot and vehicle patrols, showcasing their commitment to maintaining peace in the region.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), Maj Gen Farouk Mijinyawa, praised the professionalism of the troops and expressed his gratitude for public cooperation.
He urged citizens to continue providing intelligence to help combat crime and ensure a safer environment for residents of Lagos and Ogun.
These ongoing efforts underscore the military’s dedication to restoring security in these states, with continued vigilance promised.
