Nigeria is poised to receive telecommunications equipment and fibre optic infrastructure valued at $3 billion by June 2025, according to the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani.
Speaking during a panel session at the Nigeria Development Update (NDU), an event organised by the World Bank, Tijani revealed that $1 billion worth of telecommunications equipment is expected to arrive in the country by mid-2025. In addition, fibre optic infrastructure worth $2 billion will be deployed to bolster the nation’s digital backbone.
“This initiative is designed to significantly enhance communication services across the country and bridge the connectivity gap,” Tijani stated.
He further announced that a pilot phase of the project will soon be launched, targeting over 20 million Nigerians currently without access to any form of telecommunications.
The Nigeria Development Update is a bi-annual World Bank report that reviews Nigeria’s economic and social developments, evaluates current policies, and provides strategic recommendations to tackle emerging challenges.
