Nigeria is poised to reform its tax administration system as part of broader economic restructuring aimed at fostering growth and development.
Speaking at the Kaduna State chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) 2024 Annual Public Lecture and Awards, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stressed the urgent need for tax reforms to address systemic flaws and taxpayer attitudes.
The event, themed “Tax Reform: The Role of Public Relations in Fostering Constructive Dialogue for National Economic Renaissance,” underscored the importance of collaboration and communication in implementing reforms.
Hon. Idris commended the Presidential Committee on Fiscal and Tax Reform for its efforts to engage the public and ensure transparency.
He emphasized that the ongoing review of tax laws is timely, forming part of wider macroeconomic policies to position the country for sustained growth.
He also highlighted the vital role of public relations in fostering dialogue and building trust between the government and citizens, calling on stakeholders to support the reform agenda.
The minister reassured Nigerians of the government’s commitment to democratic principles, open engagement, and equitable distribution of resources through fiscal federalism.
He urged citizens to embrace the reforms as necessary steps toward achieving a prosperous and inclusive Nigeria.
