President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sympathy to the people and government of Niger State following a tragic petrol tanker explosion on the Bida-Agaie-Lapai road, which occurred on Sunday.
According to reports from the Niger Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the accident involved both a petrol tanker and a truck loaded with cattle and passengers, resulting in numerous injuries in addition to the 48 lives lost.
In a statement from his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu extended his condolences to the families of the victims, while also sympathizing with those whose shops were damaged in the explosion.
The President also commended the swift actions of emergency services at both the state and federal levels, as well as the local citizens who mobilized to provide assistance at the scene.
He offered prayers for the quick recovery of the injured and pledged continued federal support for the relief efforts.
In response to the accident, President Tinubu directed federal transportation and infrastructure agencies to work closely with state governments to enhance road safety measures for travelers and residents, aiming to prevent future tragedies on Nigerian roads.
