Niger Delta youths are calling for the reinstatement of Basil Igwebueze, the Rivers State Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The appeal was made by the South-South Youths Initiative to the NSCDC Commandant General, Dr. Audi Ahmed.
In a statement released on Thursday, the group’s President, Imeabe Oscar, highlighted Igwebueze’s exemplary performance while serving in Rivers State.
Oscar stated, “It should be on record that one of the criteria for appointing heads of security agencies is professionalism.
We are very pleased that Commandant Basil Igwebueze has demonstrated professionalism and diligence in his role.
His efforts have significantly contributed to the peace and security of Rivers State, including the disruption of illegal bunkering activities that have bolstered federal revenue.”
The youths expressed concern that such a competent and diligent officer is being redeployed at a time when his continued presence is deemed crucial for consolidating his achievements.
“We are not happy that at a time when his leadership is most needed, he is being transferred,” Oscar added.
The group commended the NSCDC’s high level of professionalism and noted that the public’s confidence in the corps has increased under Igwebueze’s leadership.
They called on the Commandant General to reconsider the decision, emphasizing that Igwebueze’s reinstatement would benefit both the state and the South-South region.
Oscar concluded, “Commandant Basil has performed exceptionally well, with no recorded misconduct.
We urge the CG to heed our appeal and reinstate him to continue his valuable service in Rivers State.”
