The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has recently provided relief materials to communities in Yobe State affected by flooding and insurgency.
During the handover of these items in Damaturu on Saturday, the State Coordinator of the Commission, Mr. Ali Abbas, stated that NEDC Managing Director, Alhaji Mohammed Alkali, is actively collaborating with Governor Mai Mala Buni to address humanitarian and development needs in the state.
“You may recall that recently, we experienced flooding, as well as insurgent attacks in Mafa community in Tarmuwa Local Government,” Abbas said.
He mentioned that the Managing Director and his team visited the affected sites last week to assess the situation and engage with the impacted residents.
Following the visit, the Managing Director instructed the commission to distribute both food and non-food items to support the communities and supplement the government’s ongoing efforts.
The relief items distributed included 200 bags of rice (25kg each), 200 cartons each of macaroni and spaghetti, and 200 blankets.
Additionally, 200 nylon mats, 200 pieces of shadda for men, 200 women’s wrappers, and 200 pieces of children’s clothing were provided.
The flood-affected communities that received aid included Jumbam, Wagir, Nangere, Nguru, Kaligari, and Mafa, which also recently suffered an insurgent attack.
Alhaji Mala Musty, representing the people of Tarmuwa Local Government, expressed gratitude for the support provided by the NEDC.
He also appealed for further assistance from other sympathizers both within and outside the state, noting that the devastation was significant and the residents were in dire need.
