The operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) apprehended a 38-year-old suspect, Okafor Anthony, at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.
The suspect was intercepted while attempting to board a Qatar Airlines flight en route to Iran via Doha. During a three-day excretion observation, Anthony excreted 76 wraps of cocaine, weighing 1.267kg, which he had ingested in an attempt to smuggle the drugs.
The arrest, confirmed by NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, occurred last Sunday as authorities heightened surveillance at key airports across the country.
In a separate operation in Kogi State, NDLEA agents patrolling the Okene-Lokoja-Abuja expressway on September 17 seized 700,000 pills of Exol-5, suspected to be destined for drug distribution networks in Kano and Kaduna.
Following this, a 23-year-old suspect, Udemefuna Chibuike, was arrested on September 20 along Mokwa-Jebba road in Niger State with a large cache of illegal substances, including 49,000 tablets of Tramadol and 20,000 tablets of Diazepam, along with Tramadol injections and codeine-based cough syrups.
Further south, another operation in Rivers State resulted in the seizure of 451 blocks of cannabis weighing 213kg on September 18.
The drugs were intercepted on Azikiwe Road in Port Harcourt, with a 33-year-old suspect, Ogochukwu Paul, being arrested while transporting the cannabis to Borikiri, a known hotspot for drug activities.
The NDLEA continues its intensified efforts against drug trafficking across the country, as these operations demonstrate their commitment to curbing the illicit drug trade in various regions.
