The National Assembly has dismissed circulating reports on social media suggesting that President Bola Tinubu will present the 2025 budget to a joint legislative session on Wednesday.
In a statement on Tuesday, Dr. Ali Umoru, Secretary of Research and Information at the National Assembly, labeled the claims as false and urged the public to disregard them. He clarified that the legislative body is still reviewing the 2024–2026 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP), which must be approved before any budget presentation.
“The purported claim that the 2025 budget will be presented tomorrow is untrue. The necessary legislative process for budget presentation, including the approval of the MTEF and FSP, is still ongoing,” the statement read.
Dr. Umoru further emphasized the importance of relying on official communication channels for updates regarding the National Assembly, cautioning against the spread of unverified and misleading information.
He reiterated the legislature’s commitment to transparency and urged media outlets and the public to verify claims before publication.
This clarification comes as Nigerians anticipate the eventual unveiling of the 2025 budget, which is expected to outline the government’s fiscal strategies and economic priorities for the upcoming year. Meanwhile, the Senate Committee on Finance met with various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies earlier this week as part of ongoing efforts to finalize the MTEF and FSP, according to PUNCH Online.
