The Nasarawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) elected Adamu Bako, the party’s former state secretary, as its new chairman.

Bako’s election followed a party congress held on Tuesday in Lafia, the state capital.

Announcing the results, Senator Simon Mwadkwon, Chairman of the PDP National Committee overseeing the congress, commended the fairness and transparency of the election process, urging members to rally behind Bako’s leadership.

“We had a very successful and credible congress.

In the contest, there is no victor or vanquished. Whoever emerged today is here to serve the people,” Mwadkwon said, encouraging unity among all members.

Mwadkwon disclosed that 1,414 delegates participated in the congress, with Bako securing 1,403 votes, while his opponent, Matthew John, received seven votes, alongside four invalid ballots.

“Adamu Bako is hereby declared as the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Nasarawa State,” he announced.

Other newly elected officials include Keffas Danlami as Secretary, Yahaya Bunu as Treasurer, Chinenege Muhammed as State Publicity Secretary, and Hanatu John as State Women Leader.

Bala Aron was chosen as State Legal Adviser, while Awesu Abdullahi was elected as State Auditor.

Vice-chairpersons for the state’s three senatorial zones were also selected: Marshin Shema (North), Isah Bala Mangi (South), and Attahiru Osu Audu (West).

In his first address as chairman, Bako thanked PDP members for their commitment and participation, vowing to strengthen the party across the state in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

“Our duty is to reach out to any members who may feel aggrieved so that we can work together as one family.

I want to congratulate our PDP family for coming together with one voice to elect the new leaders,” he stated.

Emmanuel Ombugadu, the PDP’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate in Nasarawa State, praised the congress, describing it as a free and fair process.
