The Osun State Government has confirmed two cases of Mpox in Ilesa West local government area and has activated its Emergency Operations Centre to tackle the spread.
Commissioner for Health, Jola Akintola confirmed this on Monday during a meeting at the ministry of health in Osogbo.
Dr. Akintola assured the public that the state government is actively managing the situation and that there is no cause for alarm.
The Commissioner noted that the state successfully managed COVID-19 and prevented a cholera outbreak, and is confident in its ability to prevent the spread of Mpox.
Osun State has recorded only two cases in the last 34 weeks, compared to hundreds in other states.
The Emergency Operations Centre has been activated, and stakeholders will meet every Monday to strategize on preventing the spread of the virus.
Osun Epidemiologist, Dr. Omolola Adeagbo, revealed that a total of 47 suspected cases were recorded from EPI Week 1 to Week 34 across 13 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
The government has assured that its officers are fully prepared to handle the situation and prevent the spread of Mpox.
