Former Chelsea and Real Madrid manager José Mourinho has found himself under fire after his Fenerbahçe side suffered a 3-1 defeat in the first Istanbul derby of the season against Galatasaray, a team featuring Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen.
Following the match, Galatasaray wasted no time in mocking Mourinho with a series of social media posts. One tweet featured a photoshopped image of a fictional book titled “The Crying One”, a reference to Mourinho’s famous moniker, The Special One, and showed him in tears.
Galatasaray further poked fun at the “Mourinho Universe” slogan, a phrase coined by Fenerbahçe fans since Mourinho joined the club this summer.
The loss adds to Mourinho’s mounting frustrations, as his team was already eliminated from Champions League qualifiers by Lille and relegated to the Europa League.
The match, which saw goals from Dries Mertens, Gabriel Sara, and a Dominik Livakovic own goal, increased the pressure on Mourinho, who stormed out of the stadium without attending the post-match press conference.
Fans and critics alike are now questioning whether Mourinho can bounce back after these early-season struggles in Turkey.
