The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, requested medical records for Gambaryan from the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), according to a recent disclosure. A response from the NCoS was received by the NSA on August 29, which included a report from Nizamiye Hospital, among other documents.
The report indicated that Gambaryan had been receiving proper medical treatment from the NCoS, including visits to several hospitals such as the State House Clinic. NCoS representative, Iheanacho, emphasized that the correctional service had been providing adequate care and could take Gambaryan to any hospital within Nigeria. He further noted that while Gambaryan may require surgery, it cannot be performed without his consent.
Earlier, Gambaryan’s counsel, Mordi, urged the court to grant his client bail on liberal terms or, alternatively, to release him on bail for six weeks due to his ill-health. He argued that, despite claims from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that Gambaryan’s condition was not severe, medical reports demonstrated the need for continuous medical care. Mordi added that Gambaryan’s health issues could not be adequately managed within Nigeria.
