The newly appointed Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, has officially taken office at the Assembly Complex. Meranda was accompanied by members of the House as she moved into the Speaker’s office.
A prayer session was held for the Speaker and other members of the Assembly, seeking smooth leadership and collaboration among the lawmakers. During the brief ceremony, Meranda demonstrated her readiness to lead the Assembly, with today’s plenary adjourned to a later date under her leadership.
Meanwhile, the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, broke his silence on Saturday, asserting that he remains the Speaker until due process is followed.
Obasa was removed by a majority of Assembly members on January 13, 2025, following allegations of misconduct and financial misappropriation. His statement signals a potential leadership dispute as the Assembly moves forward under Meranda’s leadership.
