The bout, held at the Dublin Arena, saw Edwards emerge victorious by unanimous decision after going the full rounds.
Competing in the Misfits Boxing Cruiserweight division, an organization led by English social media personality and Nigerian-born professional boxer Olajide Olayinka Williams, better known as KSI, Edwards made his debut on Saturday, August 31, 2024.
His decision to enter the cruiserweight division represents a significant shift from his illustrious career in track and field.
In his announcement, Edwards expressed his excitement about this new chapter in his athletic journey.
“Breaking News: Excited to announce my entry into the world of professional boxing! Thrilled to join the Cruiserweight division roster on @MisfitsBoxing.
Get ready for an electrifying debut as I step into the ring to showcase my skills and determination,” he stated.
Before his move to boxing, Edwards enjoyed a remarkable career in athletics.
Initially competing as a British track and field athlete, he switched allegiance to Nigeria in August 2018.
With a personal best of 2.25 meters in the high jump, Edwards claimed the Nigerian national championships in 2021 and 2022.
He was also a finalist in the African Athletics Championships twice and narrowly missed out on a gold medal in 2022.
Additionally, Edwards showcased his talent as a finalist at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
As Edwards embarks on his new journey in professional boxing, fans are eager to see how he will make his mark in the ring, bringing the same determination and skill that defined his track and field career.
