Former Chelsea and Ghanaian international Michael Essien has added another feather to his cap by completing a UEFA certificate in football management. The celebrated midfielder, who also played for Real Madrid and AC Milan, shared his excitement and gratitude on social media, saying, “Finally done with my UEFA certificate in football management journey. Thanks all for the help. I keep learning about the beautiful game,” he posted on X.
Now 41, Essien is currently serving as a talent coach at Danish club FC Nordsjaelland, where he leverages his vast experience to mentor young players. His exceptional career, spanning elite clubs like Chelsea and Real Madrid, has made him a well-respected figure in global football.
Essien’s new qualification fuels hopes that he could play a crucial role in helping Ghana regain its former footballing glory. The Black Stars have struggled in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, recently suffering a series of disappointing results, including a draw against Sudan in Accra and difficulties in Libya. Currently third in Group F with only two points from four matches, the team faces mounting pressure to improve its form.
With Essien’s newly honed skills in football management, fans are optimistic that he may soon bring his knowledge and passion for the game back to his homeland, potentially offering much-needed support to the national team’s coaching framework.
