Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has inaugurated the newly reconstituted Enugu State Local Government Service Commission, urging its members to foster a productive and efficient local council system that aligns with his administration’s vision for inclusive development and prosperity.
The commission is chaired by Nana Ogbodo, with Peter Nnaji as Member I, Mrs. Florence Igboji as Member II, Dr. Bartholomew Ezeugwu as Member III, and Amaka Nweke also as Member I. Osondu Nnaji serves as the commission’s secretary.
Speaking during the inauguration yesterday, Mbah emphasized that the appointments were based on the integrity, character, and track records of the appointees as selfless public servants.
Highlighting the commission’s critical role in governance, he stated: “One of the key things is that whoever is to be appointed as chairman or as a member of this commission must be a person of unquestionable character and sound political judgment.”
He further stressed the administration’s commitment to grassroots development, citing various interventions across social sectors. “If you look at the interventions that we have done across the social services sector, you will observe that we have not left any part of the state out. If you talk about our intervention in the education sector, you will see that we are building 260 Smart Green Schools across the 260 electoral wards in the state. It is the same thing with the Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) and also the farm estate across the 260 electoral wards.”
Mbah charged the commission with the responsibility of ensuring efficient administration at the local government level, stating, “What that does is that it puts an enormous weight and expectations on you. You have the responsibility to ensure that we have an efficient administration of our local council system.”
