In a bid to boost tourism’s contribution to Lagos State’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and surpass previous records, the Lagos State Government has ushered in 2025 with an extraordinary lineup of cultural and tourism-driven events.
The initiative welcomed Nigerians from the diaspora and visitors to a series of experiences showcasing the state’s rich cultural heritage and scenic landmarks.
Breaking away from the tradition of centralized events, the government introduced a vibrant roadshow, offering participants an immersive exploration of Lagos.
Themed “Lagos Tourism is Rising,” the roadshow featured a lively procession of double-decker tour buses, convoys of motorbikes, and Lagos Ride vehicles, providing a dynamic tour of the state. Guests enjoyed music, dance, and engaging conversations as they traversed iconic areas such as Ikoyi, Lekki, Lagos Island, and surrounding neighborhoods.
The tour also included stops at prominent cultural landmarks such as the J. Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History, Nike Art Gallery, and other key locations.
Participants were treated to deeper insights into Lagos’ history, culture, and artistic treasures, leaving many with a newfound appreciation for the city.
The events culminated in a delightful dinner, where attendees savored Lagos’ finest cuisine.
The initiative was described as the first in a series of tourism-focused programs planned by the state government for 2025 to elevate Lagos’ profile as a global destination.
Idris Aregbe, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, emphasized the administration’s commitment to building on its 2024 achievements.
He outlined the government’s ambition to strengthen tourism’s role in the state’s economy while promoting Lagos’ cultural heritage.
Aregbe explained that the roadshow was designed to give visitors an unforgettable experience and to celebrate Nigerians in the diaspora who continue to contribute to Lagos’ growth.
He revealed plans to make the city tour a recurring event, held monthly, and highlighted the inclusion of land and water-based tours to showcase the city’s evolving transportation and tourism sectors.
The initiative also aims to foster collaboration with the diaspora community, recognizing their pivotal role in Lagos’ economic development and festive celebrations.
Aregbe stressed that such programs would strengthen the bond between Lagosians and their global counterparts.
The event attracted notable personalities, including Khadijat Omotayo, Personal Assistant to the President on Constituency Affairs; Oluwatoyin Atekoja, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos Ministry of Tourism; and celebrated figures like Nike Davies-Okundaye, Femi Adebayo, DJ Six7even, and former Miss Universe Nigeria.
As Lagos charts a new path in tourism, the state government has reaffirmed its commitment to positioning Lagos as a preferred destination for both leisure and business, offering visitors unparalleled experiences throughout the year.
