The Lagos State Government has intensified traffic management efforts in anticipation of increased congestion along the Lekki-Ajah-Epe corridor.
This move comes as the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) prepares to commence the transportation of petroleum products from the Dangote Refinery.
In preparation for the start of fuel lifting from the refinery, scheduled for September 15, 2024, NNPCL has already deployed over 100 trucks to the refinery’s fuel loading gantry located in Ibeju-Lekki.
The company confirmed that hundreds more trucks are expected to follow.
To manage the expected traffic surge, the Lagos State Government has rolled out a comprehensive traffic management strategy, targeting the Lekki-Ajah-Epe axis.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has been bolstered with new equipment and trained personnel to oversee traffic flow.
Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, assuredly residents and commuters that adequate preparations have been made to mitigate any potential disruptions.
He emphasized that LASTMA, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, has mobilized advanced tow trucks and emergency response teams to swiftly address any traffic issues.
In addition, medical ambulance services are on standby to ensure quick response in case of emergencies.
Giwa further stressed the importance of tanker operators adhering to traffic regulations, particularly during the loading process and while navigating the congested areas.
The state government has vowed to enforce these regulations to prevent gridlocks and maintain a smooth traffic flow.
The government has also cautioned commercial bus operators to strictly follow traffic rules, avoid picking up or dropping passengers at unauthorized locations, and respect road signs and traffic signals.
These measures are part of a broader effort to ensure a harmonious and efficient transportation system as the Dangote Refinery begins its operations.
Lagos authorities reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining orderly traffic and safeguarding the well-being of residents during this critical phase of industrial activity in the region.
