The body of the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has arrived at the military wing of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, as part of the preparations to transport his remains to Abuja for final rites.
Upon arrival, senior military officers assembled in formation to pay respects to the late army chief, whose passing occurred on Tuesday, November 5, following an illness in Lagos.
Lieutenant General Lagbaja was appointed Chief of Army Staff by President Bola Tinubu on June 19, 2023. Following his death, President Tinubu appointed Olufemi Oluyede as the new acting COAS.
A service of songs is scheduled for Thursday at the Army Headquarters Garrison Parade Ground in Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja, between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. On Friday, a funeral service will take place at the National Christian Centre in Abuja’s Central Business District (CBD) from 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., followed by interment at the National Military Cemetery between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.
