The Kogi State Police Command has disbursed cheques worth ₦52,885,344.83 to 27 families of officers who lost their lives in active service.

The payments, made under the Group Life Assurance Scheme and the Inspector-General of Police Family Welfare Scheme, were presented at a ceremony in Lokoja on Wednesday.

Speaking during the event, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye, said the gesture was in line with the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun’s “unwavering commitment to improve the welfare of the families of officers who died in active service.”

The Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, who was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Administration, DCP Baba Mallam Alhaji, presented the cheques to the beneficiaries.

In his remarks, DCP Baba described the initiative as a reflection of the IGP’s dedication to the welfare of police personnel and their families.

“We encourage the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds to support the upkeep and future of their households,” he said, assuring that “the sacrifices of the fallen officers will never be forgotten.”

He further reaffirmed the IGP’s resolve to continue prioritising the welfare of serving and retired personnel, as well as the families of those who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.

The beneficiaries, in their responses, expressed profound gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police, noting that the financial support would “go a long way in cushioning the effect of the loss of their loved ones.”
