Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has ordered an immediate reform of the state’s penal code to enhance efforts in combating terrorism, specifically targeting informants and other terrorist-related offenses.
The governor issued the directive on Thursday during the opening of a two-day capacity-building workshop for stakeholders in the criminal justice system, organized by the State Ministry of Justice.
Radda emphasized the need for the reform in light of the security challenges currently faced by the state.
“I have directed the office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to amend the Penal Code Law to ensure effective punishment for informants and other accomplices involved in banditry, kidnapping, and related crimes,” Radda said.
The governor underscored the vital role that the administration of criminal justice plays in maintaining social order, cohesion, and safeguarding citizens’ rights by addressing challenges and implementing effective solutions.
“Building the capacity and enhancing the skills of key stakeholders in the justice system for efficient service delivery remains a core objective of my administration,” he added.
“We have revamped the state judicial system and are committed to ensuring that justice is served for the betterment of both the state and the nation.”
