Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State has declared Monday, July 14, 2025, a work-free day across the state in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in London.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Faskari, on Sunday.
According to Faskari, the work-free day is to allow citizens of the late president’s home state to join the rest of the country in mourning his passing and to offer prayers for the repose of his soul.
Governor Radda extended his heartfelt condolences to the Buhari family, the people of Katsina State, and the entire nation. He described the late president as “a great leader, a hero, a true democrat, and a patriotic elder statesman whose life was devoted to the service of Nigeria.”
The governor prayed for Almighty Allah to grant mercy to Buhari’s soul, forgive his shortcomings, and reward his efforts with Jannatul Firdaus.
“Details regarding the burial arrangements will be communicated to the public in due course,” the statement concluded.
