The Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of Dahiru Musa, a 32-year-old man from Dorayi quarters, Kano. The arrest followed an investigation into Musa’s disappearance, which was reported by his brother.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna, revealed the details in a statement made available on Wednesday. According to Haruna, the investigation began after Musa’s brother lodged a complaint on September 29, 2024, reporting him missing and expressing suspicion about one of his close associates, Aliyu Adamu, 22, of Gaida Yan-Kusa Quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area.
“On September 29, 2024, at about 7:30 p.m., a resident of Dorayi Quarters, Kano, reported that his brother, Dahiru Musa, had gone missing. He expressed strong suspicions regarding Aliyu Adamu, who was the last person seen with the deceased,” Haruna said.
Following the report, police detectives arrested Adamu on September 30. During interrogation, Adamu confessed to conspiring with a friend, Mubarak Abdulsalam, 20, of Mandawari Quarters, to lure Musa to Adamu’s residence under the pretense of discussing a land transaction.
The suspects reportedly poisoned Musa’s food, and after he became unconscious, they stabbed him to death. His body was then wrapped in a sack and dumped in an unfinished building near Adamu’s house. Their motive, according to Haruna, was to steal Musa’s landed property, as Adamu had already taken possession of the land documents.
Further investigation led to the arrest of Abdulsalam, who had allegedly conspired with another accomplice, Sadiq Sunusi, 19, to burn Musa’s body using petrol, in an effort to destroy evidence after Adamu’s arrest.
Police recovered Musa’s charred remains, which were later taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital in Kano for autopsy.
Haruna confirmed that all three suspects are currently in custody at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide Section, and will face charges in court once the investigation is concluded.
The Commissioner of Police, Salman Garba, praised the public for providing critical information that led to the arrests and urged residents to exercise caution when conducting business, especially in unfamiliar or isolated areas.
