The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 11 suspects linked to the gruesome killing of two students at Government Secondary School, Bichi, in Bichi Local Government Area of the state.
According to Daily Trust, the tragic incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on Monday, when a group of students allegedly launched a violent attack on four of their peers over suspicions of homosexual activity.
Two of the victims were reportedly beaten to death at the scene, while the remaining two sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Bichi General Hospital for medical attention.
“One of the teachers informed us that a crisis broke out in the school, initially described as a fight between students. It later became clear that the victims were accused of homosexuality, and the attackers beat them severely. Two of the students died on the spot, while another was rushed to the hospital,” a source told Daily Trust.
Reacting to the incident, Kano State Commissioner for Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye Makoda, described the development as deeply unfortunate and tragic.
“The Kano State Government is committed to a thorough, fair, and transparent investigation to uncover the truth and ensure justice is served,” Makoda said.
He also expressed condolences to the bereaved families on behalf of the state government and its citizens. “We pray that Almighty Allah grants the victims Jannatul Firdaus,” he added.
In a related response, the Director of the Kano State Senior Secondary School Management Board, Alhaji Abbas Abdullahi, condemned the incident, describing it as “disturbing” and deeply troubling for the state’s education system.
Authorities have assured the public that those found culpable will face the full weight of the law.
